About the Title of my Blog…
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is a 1968 science fiction novel by Philip K. Dick. It tells of the moral crisis of Rick Deckard, a bounty hunter who stalks androids in a fallout-clouded, partially-deserted future San Francisco. So, I like to think of this Blog as my ‘Electronic Sheep’ or what I dream about… however at times I use it to vent… ie. Get A Clue Starbucks!
About Me:
I’m Aaron and I’m a Web Designer for MySQL.com the ‘Worlds Most Popular Open Source Database’. Currently I focus on managing content in 5 languages for MySQL, Graphic Design (mainly site banners & ad buttons) , I’m in charge of Web Analytics (Primarily Google Analytics – Great Tool!) and my big project at the moment (not including product launches) is a site-realignment for MySQL.com.
I like to spend my free time tinkering with my Blog and learning all I can about Wordpress (I’ve started to design my first template this week). When possible I try to participate in the Ubuntu community helping answer new user questions in order to promote Linux. I also enjoy riding my bike (Marin 21.5″ San Anselmo Hybrid-Road) in beautiful Colorado, and am planning on picking up a new Mountain bike in the next few months.
Currently Working On:
I’m currently working on a few projects, mainly the MySQL Site Re-Alignment… A few months ago I read this great article on ‘A List Apart - Good Designers Redesign, Great Designers Realign‘. Basically if you have good content, active user community an such, you shouldn’t need to re-invent your site… Great Designers find the best ways to improve sites. I do not consider myself a Great Designer by any means, and am constantly soaking up new designs, ideas and technology to make the sites I work on Great.
The other project I’ve started recently is to post a portfolio site for myself and actually try to become a Professional Web Designer… Sorry, this makes me laugh a bit. I have always enjoyed the Web medium… there is a sense of instant gratification when you make something cool or neat and when you refresh your browser everything works as planned. I’m constantly trying to improve my craft and figured that the best way to do that would be to drum up some business and buld up my portfolio, which in the economic climate is never a bad thing.
